Have you ever wondered why God isn’t doing what you think He should be doing when you think He should be doing it?  We can, when not in the moment of waiting, answer the question with a general vague acknowledgement that He indeed knows best.

The scripture offers more than vagaries on His Sovereignty, but instead provides concrete examples of His power, intention, design, and goodness in each and every situation. One such simple but instructive passage can be found in Genesis 3.  “This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made earth and heaven. Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the Lord God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to [c]cultivate the ground.”

This text provides us a wonderful example of the intentionality of God even in the timing of His creation.  He had not made vegetation to grow for there was no rain to feed the shrubs and no people to care for the growing plants. When He had provided adequate provision for the plants, only then did they sprout.  This text reminds that nothing is haphazard or by chance, not even the growth of plants.  Our God is truly amazing and organized down to the most minute detail!

So the next time the challenge of your life’s circumstance is tempting you to question the wisdom, sovereignty and goodness of God, recall the diving timing of sprouting plants. They grew at the right time, when He had finished His work of creating people to care for them.  We can live with great confidence, knowing that His timing is perfect for us as well.  Let’s worship and trust Him for His perfect wisdom.
